About the State Resource Organization (SRO)

The status of an SRO was conferred upon the department of sociology (DoS), Lucknow University by the Department of Urban Development (DoUD), Government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP) seeking assistance to the DoUD and carry out range of studies, surveys, pilot projects and snap-monitoring assignments.

The Department of Sociology has been encouraged to adopt quick-response institutional mechanism to respond to short-term and urgent work-requirements. The DoS is expected engage with a range of multi-disciplinary qualified agencies and experts, empanelled with it adopting a standard and transparent procedure so that such entities could be assigned turnkey assignments within short time whenever such needs arise.

The DoS has also been encouraged to set-up an academic stream on urban development and formally consider instituting
(a) research projects to award M Phil and PhD degrees,
(b) internship and summer projects for students of undergraduate, post-graduate and of research fellows, and also
(c) a volunteering certification program.

The SRO has adopted few standard governing and decision making practices and assumes transparency in its processes and procedures.

Swachh bharat mission

The SRO is governing core; besides those provided as per the university and UGC rules, is an apex level committee, namely the steering committee. The committee is mandated to consider all the proposals that the DoUD expresses as its priority or that signifies ramification on the proceedings of key DoUD-decisions. The committee’s mandate is to evolve -
(a) scope of such assignments and articulate terms of reference for the same and help develop a financial contour of such assignments.
(b) The committee would also deepen the thematic components that constitute with such assignments and draw a quality standard for conduct/ implementation of the same. The committee has 5 members – for a term of one year. The committee meets as per the requirements; certainly once every 2 months. The Head sociology department is the convenor of the committee.

Project level screening committees may be constituted to appraise proposals that are being submitted by outside entities and whose capabilities and other relevant attributes seek to be examined. This is a formation that takes shape on case to case basis as different thematic and functional specificities of the different proposals demands. For the pilot project on Zero-waste for Lucknow colonies, the screening committee formed was as following –
